“Make America Great Again” is a well-known slogan promoted by a certain recent president and embodying many of the political beliefs of the Republican Party. But according to a radical educational movement sweeping through American schools, MAGA is a form of “socially acceptable, covert white supremacy” akin to “police murders” of minorities, “mass incarceration,” “police brutality,” and “racial profiling.”
Hard to believe that any sane institution would promote such a view? We thought so too. But here’s the proof: a pyramid chart used by a Maryland public school as part of a “social justice” class curriculum.
“Make America Great Again,” according to the chart, is not only on the same level as the murder and mayhem of covert white supremacy—but is a close cousin of such overt white supremacy as “lynching,” “hate crimes,” “burning crosses,” “the n-word” and other “racial slurs.”
Below the crime of “Make America Great Again,” the pyramid expands to other offenses. Do not believe “we’re just one family.” Do not support a “Euro-centric curriculum” or “English-only initiatives.” Do not say we are in a “post-racial” society. Do not engage in “anti-immigration policies/practices” or exhibit “paternalism” or “tokenism” or “color blindness.” Do not deny “racism” or “white privilege” or assume that “good intentions are enough.”
The chart is one small part of a curriculum package developed for middle school kids—grades 6 through 8, ages 11 through 13. At the bottom of the chart, the children are instructed by a smiling pear: “Students, write your response!” One can only imagine the hell that awaits the child who deviates from the party line.
The chart and other documents were uncovered by Judicial Watch from Maryland public schools under the state’s public information laws. Unfortunately, the chart cannot be dismissed as the ravings of a lunatic. It’s part of the radical “critical race theory” movement suddenly on fire in American education. The Judicial Watch documents reveal a powerful organizational push to establish an “anti-racist system audit” and a critical race theory class in the Maryland school system.
Rooted in the Left doctrine of class struggle and deploying the rhetoric of social justice warriors, critical race theory teaches that U.S. society—our culture, laws, beliefs, and modes of governance—are a racist system devoted to upholding the power of white people. Its central goal, notes writer Christopher Rufo, is a “cultural revolution, steeped in Marxism, adjusted to identity politics, and now activated through Black Lives Matter.”
And it’s happening not just in Maryland but in classrooms across the country, from elementary school to universities. This is alarming news.
“The racist, revolutionary claptrap in these documents should be nowhere near a school classroom,” says Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These documents show that extremists have access to our schools and are willing to abuse this access to children in order to advance a dangerous, divisive, and likely illegal agenda.”
